SECURING A FUTURE FOR HISTORY

A Masterclass in Modern Marvels: Reimagining the NS Savannah

Just like the SS Rotterdam, a mid-century marvel reborn as the crown jewel of her city, historic preservation can breathe new life into forgotten icons. The SS Rotterdam attracts not just tourists, but locals and event planners alike, showcasing the enduring allure of the past. Similarly, the TWA Flight Center's transformation into a living museum and hotel offers weary travelers a unique blend of history and comfort.

These success stories serve as a roadmap for the NS Savannah's future.

We envision the NS Savannah joining the ranks of these revitalized treasures. Imagine her not just as a static museum exhibit, but as a vibrant "living history" experience. Step aboard and be transported to the mid-century era, where innovation and elegance ruled the waves. The NS Savannah has the potential to become an iconic landmark, attracting visitors and fostering a deep appreciation for this pivotal chapter in maritime history.

WHY SAVE THE SAVANNAH?

NS Savannah boasts remarkably well-preserved public spaces. This presents a unique opportunity for her future stewards. With minimal restoration, these spaces could be transformed into a captivating "voyage through time" experience. Stepping aboard the NS Savannah wouldn't just be a museum visit; it would be a chance to immerse yourself in the elegance and innovation of mid-century travel and design, offering an irreplaceable glimpse into a bygone era.

SAVANNAH'S
PRESERVED INTERIORS

A PLUG & PLAY SHIP

The NS Savannah is remarkably prepared for immediate reuse. Her hull, inspected and coated in 2019, likely will not require dry docking for another two decades. Essential systems like HVAC, Wifi and electronics are in place and ready for use. Gangways and a forklift will be included for the ship's new owner as well, making operations efficient. Uniquely, the Savannah houses the only commercial atomic power plant, preserved in its original condition (cosmetically) that visitors could walk through - a one-of-a-kind opportunity for educational and historical exploration. This exceptional state of readiness means the ship could welcome visitors as soon as she is turned over

THE NS SAVANNAH, TODAY

Future Use

REPURPOSING OPPORTUNITIES

The NS Savannah's unique design as a "combination liner" offers exciting possibilities for her future. Originally functioning as both a cargo ship and luxury passenger vessel, she boasted well-appointed all first-class accommodations that remain awe-inspiring even by modern standards. This exceptional quality extends throughout her public spaces. Significantly, the majority of the ship's hull was dedicated to cargo, providing ample room for creative expansion. Modern amenities like additional hotel rooms, conference or entertainment facilities could be seamlessly integrated without sacrificing the historic character of the passenger experience. This unique blend of historic charm, ample space, and modern practicality makes the NS Savannah an incredibly attractive and flexible prospect for redevelopment. Public spaces, Reactor space & holds 3 & 4 are fully air conditioned and heated. 3 & 4 are also already converted for classroom or conference space.
